Finding My Home: Why My New Office Means More Than Just a Move

ree

There are certain places, and certain people, that just feel like home. Not because they’re perfect. Not because they’re fancy. But because something inside your body softens the minute you step into them. Your shoulders drop. Your breath deepens. You feel… settled.

For me, office space has always been more than four walls and a Wi-Fi password. It’s where people come to be vulnerable. Where they cry, laugh, heal, grieve, rage, rebuild. It’s where stories are held and where nervous systems slowly learn what safety feels like again.

So when I say finding a place that feels like “home” matters to me, I mean it deeply.

The Office That Never Felt Like Home

For years, I was part of a group practice that, on paper, made sense. But if you’ve ever lived somewhere that just didn’t feel right, you know the feeling: you’re physically in the space but never fully of the space.

It wasn’t one thing. There was no dramatic moment. It was a slow-burning sense of misalignment. A quiet knowing that I could never quite settle in. That no matter how many hours I spent there, I would walk in and feel… off. Like I was borrowing someone else’s coat that didn’t quite fit.

The details aren’t important, it's good gossip by I try to be somewhat professional 🤪. What’s important is this: Your body knows when a place is not your place.

The “Temporary” Office That Was Never Meant to Last

When I left that group practice, the transition was fast and, honestly, a bit chaotic. I needed a space quickly. Something functional. Something that would “work for now.”

And I found it. It did the job. I made it cozy. Clients loved it. People complimented the décor all the time.

But whenever I unlocked the door, I felt the truth: This wasn’t home either.

Sometimes other people’s praise can drown out your own inner knowing. But that quiet voice stayed consistent. This is temporary. This is not where you settle.

The Search for a Place That Felt Like Mine

I had my heart set on a specific location for some time, one that felt aligned, energizing, and filled with people who genuinely feed my soul.

It didn’t happen overnight. There were delays. There were tears. There were moments where I doubted if the right space even existed or was possible.

But I held onto the belief that home, real home, is worth waiting for.

And then it happened.I found the office.

The Moment I Knew

I had seen this office space a few times and never saw the vision. I don't think I was mentally in a place where I was ready to see the vision of it's potential. Through much encouragement from my people, I was able to walk in and felt my body do that thing it only does in the presence of true safety: I exhaled. Fully.

It wasn’t logical. It wasn’t practical. It was visceral.

This was it. The energy. The people who were by my side. The way my nervous system quietly said, “Yup, this is it.”

After years of being in spaces that didn’t quite fit, I finally found the one where everything clicked into place.

Why This Matters (For Therapists, Clients, and Humans)

Therapy isn’t just about the work, it’s also about the environment that holds that work.

When I feel grounded, my clients feel grounded. When I feel at home, my clients can find their way home, too.

We underestimate how deeply spaces impact us. How much a room can either drain us or breathe life into us. How certain environments make us smaller, dim our light, lose our sparkle… and others help us expand.

Finding my new office wasn’t just a business decision, it was a healing one.

It reminded me that:

  • You deserve to feel settled.

  • You deserve to feel surrounded by people who lift you.

  • You deserve to build a life and career in spaces that support your nervous system, not stress it.

  • And sometimes, the “home” you’re waiting for takes longer than you wanted, but it’s worth the wait.

Here’s to the New Chapter

So here I am. In my home office. The one that feels like me. The one that holds me the way I hold others. The one filled with people who nourish, inspire, and support.

This space is more than a fresh coat of paint or new furniture. It’s a full-circle moment. A return to myself. A reminder that listening to your intuition can lead you exactly where you need to go.

Here’s to feeling settled. Here’s to trusting the process. And here’s to finding the places, and people,

that finally feel like home.
